About

bogart readingWelcome to my blog. I’ll be posting reviews of whatever I’ve just finished reading, plus anything else book-related that catches my eye. I particularly enjoy crime fiction which stretches or pushes at the boundaries of the genre, but I’m also content to read your bog standard police procedural. I’m currently working my way through Ed McBain’s epic, 50-year 87th Precinct series, in homage to the writer who first got me interested in a life of crime.

If you want to know more about me, I can do nothing better than quote Bogart in The Big Sleep, ‘There’s not much to tell… I went to college. I can still speak English when my business demands it.‘ Thankfully, it doesn’t demand it very often. I teach at a secondary school, and have a young family that takes up the rest of my time.

I don’t have a review policy on the blog – the closest thing to it is this post. If I like a book, I review it. If I don’t like it, I keep schtum. But I’m always interested in anything new – so if you want to reach me you can do so via whatareyoureadingfor@gmail.com, and also The Twitter – right here.

  1. Not ALL chick lit is bad. Just most. 😉 Thanks for taking a peek at my blog and for the follow. I appreciate it immensely!

  3. No – but I’d be more worried if I ever did run out. If I’m not reading something for a day or two, I start to get… twitchy

  5. I love your blog and was wondering if you’d be interested in getting involved with our new independent publishing imprint – Britain’s Next Bestseller.
In a nutshell; Britain’s Next Bestseller is a new independent publisher. Our mission is very simple – to shake up the way the UK publishing industry works. We want to give authors a new, fairer way to land a publishing contract without relying on literary agents, traditional publishers or self-publishing houses.
How does it work? Once authors have a finished, fully edited manuscript, we agree a target number of pre-orders they need to achieve in a set timeframe. Then we help authors create a buzz on social media and via our website. If they achieve the required number of pre-orders, they bag a book deal; we publish their book within 12 weeks and provide industry-beating royalties, international distribution and free professional sales and marketing support.
Obviously for this model to work, word of mouth support via blogs and social media is key – which is where people like you come in! Please let me know if you’re interested in interviewing our founder, Murielle. Or any of our BNBS authors? Or perhaps you would consider hosting interviews, guest posts, book tours, giveaway or cover reveals? Our website is http://www.britainsnextbestseller.com
Look forward to hearing what you think!
    Thanks again,
    Jude x

  6. Bravo for your interest in Ed McBain. The not-so-disguised NYPD story line is one of the inspirations for my own fiction.
